Future director Curaçao Refinery uncertain

Jose-van-den-Wall-Arnemann-RdKWILLEMSTAD - The intention of the Government as the sole shareholder of the public company Refineria di Korsou (Curaçao Refinery) to dismiss the director is lawful; there are no serious objections to the proposed dismissal, according to advisor SBTNO. Last December José van den Wall-Arnemann was suspended as director of RdK, the owner of the refinery. Now the government is considering firing him.

The Foundation for the Supervision and Standardization of Government Entities (SBTNO) points out in its report that a general meeting of shareholders must first be convened in order to give the managing director the opportunity to justify himself. Then it must become clear whether the reasons for dismissal stand firm.

Reason for the suspension of the director, more than four months ago, is the observation of the Supervisory Board (RvC) that Van den Wall-Arnemann was guided by the choices of the Multi-Disciplinary Project Team (MDPT) and the government and has insufficiently served the interests of the company. He would have failed to make his own weighing of interests over certain decision points relating to the Modernization project of the refinery and to have been guided too much by third parties.
