Government formation talks began yesterday

Palace of the GovernorWILLEMSTAD - Contrary to earlier reports, the formation talks on a new coalition already started yesterday afternoon. The parties will first talk about a new coalition agreement.

‘Formateur’ Kenneth Gijsbertha was appointed last Friday by Governor Lucille George-Wout, who expects a first and possibly final report on November 10.

The next few days are especially dedicated to the distribution of ministerial posts between the parties MAN, PAR, PNP and Pueblo Soberano (PS). Once that’s taken care of it becomes a matter of the candidates for the positions. Then there will be a screening of the candidate ministers. Earlier it was reported that the formation talks would take place after the installation of the new parliament on November 2.

Until the parties have agreed on the distribution of ministerial posts, Humphrey Davelaar of the PNP will temporarily take over the presidency of the parliament. That was agreed upon by the four negotiating parties last week.
