Government has lost its majority temporarily
WILLEMSTAD - The government has lost its majority in parliament. And for a very wry reason. Faction leader of the ruling party Pueblo Soberano, Melvin "Mac" Cijntje is seriously ill and had to travel to the Netherlands for urgent treatment.
That will take at least several weeks. Second man in parliament, Jaime Cordoba leads the group now.
It is not yet clear whether Cijntje will be replaced by the next in line on the PS candidate's list, Carlos Trinidad. But this is also a problem for the government, because Trinidad has left the party. He’s now affiliated to 1 Team Magno.
If Cijntje’s sickness will affect the coalition is not yet clear.
Both coalition and opposition have now 10 seats.
