Government investigating possibility to construct new refinery at Bullenbaai

Rhuggenaath1WILLEMSTAD - The government is currently working on an addendum to be added to the existing Head of Agreement with Guangdong Zhenrong Energy (GZE). This is necessary to investigate the possibilities for the construction of a new refinery at Bullenbaai.

“The investigation into the possibility of a refinery in Bullenbaai has not yet begun,” said the Prime Minister of Curaçao Eugene Rhuggenaath. “We have informed GZE that parliament has agreed to a modernized clean refinery. If they were to build a new refinery at Bullenbaai, then it would be desirable to have the consent of parliament.”

Rhuggenaath confirms, at the moment, that a delegation of GZE is present on the island. During a study day, the government was extensively informed about the company's plans. Last week, the government received a presentation from the team of workforce development.

In the short term, a project management unit will be appointed by the government for the whole process. This unit is responsible for the coordination of all projects. The Prime Minister also stated that the public tender for the construction of an LNG terminal is in its final phase.
