Government wants to tackle illegal construction
WILLEMSTAD - The illegal construction on the island is being tackled. At least that is the aim of the Ministries of Traffic, Transport and Spatial Planning, Justice and Finance.
Buildings that were constructed illegally and on government’s property will be demolished. According to the ministries there are about 10,000 illegal structures across the whole island.
According to the government, it is not just a matter of stealing a piece of land, but the buildings are a danger to the community because they were not approved by the government’s department of public works.
They also overlap the planning of public spaces, sewers, drains and roads.
