Governor wants more explanation on 80/20 law
WILLEMSTAD – Three points of the 80/20 law have to be clarified and if that happens then the Governor of Curaçao, Lucille George-Wout will have no problem signing the law proposal. This was recently stated by the leader of the ruling party Pueblo Soberano (PS) Jaime Cordoba after a visit with the Governor. The visit to talk about the importance of this law for the local employees.
The Minister of Social Development, Labor and Welfare, Ruthmilda Larmonie also visited the Governor earlier this week to explain the 80/20 law.
Córdoba calls the explanation to the governor of the three points the “final touch”. Even before the Minister of Labor travels abroad, she will have the requested additional explanation for the Governor. This is according to the PS leader.
Last week the Council of Ministers voted in favor of the proposal. They bill proposal had only the support of five ministers. Minister Suzanne Camelia-Römer clearly indicated that she is not happy with the bill. This was leaked in the media and now the Minister wants an investigation into who leaked this.
The 80/20 law was already adopted by parliament three years ago when the former PS political leader and popular politician, Helmin Wiels was still alive. The 80/20 law indicates that 80 percent of the staff of a company on the island should be locals.
