Independent MP: “In essence there is no difference between Tromp and Schotte”

Glenn-SulvaranWILLEMSTAD – On his Facebook Page, the Independent Member of Parliament Glenn Parliament expressed his disgust with the manner in which the President of the Central Bank Emsley Tromp defended himself.

“Instead of Tromp addressing the content and devastating results of the PwC (Price Waterhouse Cooper) report, he launched a smear campaign based on rumors to hide his actions. Essentially there is no difference between Tromp and Gerrit Schotte,” said the Independent MP.

"Tromp now wants to attack those who want to solve the problem. Everyone should understand that there are no false accusations, but there are reports of professionals who bring the truth to light. Not everyone is wrong. You're wrong,” said Sulvaran to Tromp.

According to Sulvaran, Tromp must resign. “Both, Schotte and Tromp, must resign. They want to maintain their position in spite of everything. The one ruining the image of our country and the parliament and other ruining the image of our Central Bank and the country,” said Sulvaran.

Sulvaran is a coalition partner in the current government and he’s the MP who appointed the Minister of Finance Dr. Jose Jardim. Tromp is, as bank president of the Central Bank,  accountable to Jardim and his Finance colleague in St. Maarten.

On the other hand the Independent MP is on the list of politicians who received a loan from Giro Bank and did not have to pay it back. Tromp filed a complaint against the former Director of the Giro Bank Eric Garcia after the CBCS took over the operations of the Giro Bank. After the Central Bank took over they discovered several irregularities including loans to politicians on the island without any obligation to pay back.

According to sources close to the case, this might be one of the reasons for Sulvaran's attack on Tromp.
