Introduction weapon policy within a few months
WILLEMSTAD - The new weapon policy, which states whether a business owners are eligible to carry a weapon will be introduced in about two to three months. This is according to Police Commissioner Mauricio Sambo.
This policy was discussed at length in one of the “Triangle Consultations” between Justice Minister Nelson Navarro, the Attorney General / Public Prosecution Service and the Curaçao Police (KPC). The principle idea is, according to Sambo, that business owners may not carry firearms unless there is a valid reason for it.
In the policy the general and specific requirements and guidelines and other important points are included. Some of these requirements should be worked out, so Sambo can carefully say that the policy will be introduced in a few months, but before the end of this year.
The Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro plans to allow business owners in danger zones to carry firearms under certain conditions. The minister requested the KPC to renew the policy for issuing firearms licenses. This police is now almost ready to present this policy to the minister, who in turn will present it to parliament.
