emissions oil refTHE HAGUE, WILLEMSTAD – In a letter to the Dutch Lower House, the Minister of Defense, Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert (VVD) confirmed that the requested an investigation on the emissions of the oil refinery in Curaçao (Isla).

Dutch defense employees residing in Julianadorp have expressed their concern about their health and that of their families through the polluted air of the Isla, which was the reason for the Minister to submit an application for an investigation through official channels.

As an employer of the defense staff, she feels responsible and wants to also pay for the investigation. The Minister indicated to the government of Curacao that she will cover the cost of the investigation.

Pending the results of the investigation, the families of the defense staff will receive a relocation allowance if they want to leave to another neighborhood.
