Jamaloodin: “Suspicions based on gossip”

Jamaloodin3WILLEMSTAD - After his release yesterday, former Minister of Finance, George Jamalood said that the allegations against him in the case of Maximus are based on gossip. These gossips led to a tunnel vision of the Criminal Investigation Team.

Jamaloodin said that here on the island you are immediately guilty when you are arrested. The former Minister said that the legal system should be overhauled; how that must be done, he did not say.

The former minister has spent 13 days behind bars in a cell in Barber and he complained about the conditions there. The magistrate agreed yesterday morning to the request of the lawyers of Jamaloodin to release him pending his case in court. This decision was made on the grounds that there were insufficient serious objections to keep him in detention. The Public Prosecution disagreed and will appeal this decision to the court of justice.
