Jardim: “Continue with 2013 budget and no increase in sales tax”
WILLEMSTAD – In the opinion of the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim, experts should analyze the documents proposing a possible change in the VAT system to finally come with a proposal that will best serve the interest of the community. Minister Jardim believes that the people have to be heard and a decision has to be made that is beneficial to all.
The Finance Minister indicates that this government will continue with the 2013 budget and there “we are not even considering increasing the VAT.” The budget of 2013 includes all that has to be done to stabilize the financial situation of the island and up until now the government holds tight to this policy.
The Minister also indicated that this government is not perfect, but at least they make decisions with the view to bring positive change to bring this country back on its feet. “Some of these decisions will hurt, because we all have to sacrifice, but it will bring a solution to a problem caused by others,” said the Minister.
“Everybody knows that the brackets in the VAT system are causing major problems. Importers have been complaining for some time now that if nothing is done they will have to downsize, but apparently some politicians have forgotten this.”
