Jardim: “This government is not responsible for blacklisting”
WILLEMSTAD – During a recent presentation in parliament, the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim stated that it is not the current government’s fault that Curaçao is blacklisted by the International Narcotics Control Strategy Report (INCSR) for money laundering.
Jardim responded to comments from opposition MP Amerigo Thodé during the debate that originated from a recent letter from opposition MP Charles Cooper who sarcastically congratulated the government for being marked on the INCSR list.
But according to Jardim it is precisely Schotte’s government who put Curaçao on that list.
Jardim stated in his dissertation that Curaçao is on this list because of what happened during the term of the Schotte-cabinet. Curaçao then had a government which was chaired by Gerrit Schotte and that was associated with the underworld. That is why we are on this list. You should not thank the current government. I'm not saying you have to congratulate those who have supported the Schotte-cabinet, but they are responsible for ensuring that we are on this list.”
This list is compiled each year after an investigation by the International Narcotics Control Strategy Report (INCSR), and since 2012 Curaçao is also on this black list.
