Last witness Babel case discarded
WILLEMSTAD - This morning judge Irene Lips removed the last witness on the list in the Babel case. This witness was supposed to be heard in England, but he or she was nowhere to be found.
Former Prime Minister of Curaçao, Gerrit Schott and his life partner Cicely van der Dijs are accused of forgery, bribery and corruption in this case.
Earlier this year Schotte’s legal representative requested the testimony of 47 witnesses. The lawyers were able to interview these witnesses except for the one in England. The judge then decided to continue with the case without the testimony of this witness.
Both the defendant’s attorneys and the Public Prosecution will have the opportunity to present their cases on February 17 and 19, 2016.
