Lawyers Knoops in Curaçao to defend Schotte in Babel case
WILLEMSTAD – The Dutch lawyers Geert-Jan Knoops and his couple Carry Knoops-Hamburger are on the island in connection with the appeal in the Babel case.
They are here to assist former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte and his partner Cicely van der Dijs, who were sentenced in the first instance for forgery and money laundering, Schotte was also sentenced for corruption.
The Dutch lawyers replace Eldon Sulvaran and Chester Peterson, who resigned in mid-June. On August 11 the pre-trial was scheduled in the appeal case but has been postponed because the new lawyers have to interact and consult with their clients.
Delay Tactics, the prosecution called the state of affairs. The couple Knoops will not talk about the substance of the case because they are still in the investigation phase.
