Leeflang: “Cheaper electricity and water prices for Sambil is unacceptable!”
WILLEMSTAD - According to the Independent Member of Parliament, Omayra Leeflang, the soon to be opened Sambil mall gets preferential treatment from Aqualectra. The utility company is giving the mall, which will open its doors this coming Thursday, a cheaper rate on water and electricity. The MP finds this “unacceptable”.
“My question is how can the mall get a cheaper rate while there are dozens of citizens who get their electricity cut off because they can’t pay?”
In addition, the Committee for Financial Supervision (CFT) points out that they will take the financial risks of the government companies into account when assessing the budget of the Government of Curaçao. In view of this announcement, Leeflang thinks that this preferential treatment is very strange.
In response to the resulting uproar in the media, the Director of the utility company, Darick Jonis stated that the shopping mall will not get a special rate.
