Leeflang: “Demolition Colon can’t happen yet, tenants are still there!”

Omayra LeeflangWILLEMSTAD – The Colon-building is being demolished while tenants are still there. Minister of Health, Environment and Nature, Ben Whiteman must act against this injustice. This was requested by the independent Member of Parliament, Omayra Leeflang.

The building will be demolished because it must make way for the construction of the new hospital.

The dismantling takes place while a part of the Colon building is still rented out. According to Leeflang, the government cannot simply take its course, just because it has bought the building. “They should take the current tenants into account. As the law prescribes: sold does not end of the rental contract,” the MP said. “Since it was the decision of the government to buy the building with the tenants still using it, they have to make arrangements in a proper manner.”

Leeflang therefore wants to know from Minister Whiteman how many tenants are still present in the building and why were there no arrangements with them before dismantling began. In addition, she wants to know what is being done to reach an agreement between the tenants and the government. Finally, she wants an answer to the question of who is responsible for the damage caused by the demolition to the stores that are still occupied by the tenants.
