Leeflang fears corruption at Immigration
WILLEMSTAD – Independent Member of Parliament, Omayra Leeflang fears of corruption at the Immigration Services. To prevent this, she is requesting an investigation in a letter addressed to the Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro.
Leeflang wants to know whether the Minister can guarantee that there will be no corruption in his department. The MP indicated that those who handle the residence permit do this in a careless manner and she wants to know from the Minister if he will do something about this.
“Some people get, on the basis of an article in the law, a residence permit for an indefinite period of time, while others, on the basis of the same article, only get their residence permit for a period of five years.
According to the MP, conditions are determined randomly. Also, several people get an 'Investors permit', while having no business establishment and therefore do not create job opportunities. Leeflang cannot understand how it is possible that persons with Dutch nationality and therefore in possession of a Dutch passport, issued by the local government, have to pay for a residence permit.
“We have to be careful, because we are creating a situation perfect for corruption,” said the MP in her letter.
