Leeflang: Mismanagement, nepotism and intimidation in RdK

Omayra LeeflangWILLEMSTAD - Independent Member of Parliament, Omayra Leeflang indicates that there is mismanagement, nepotism and harassment in the workplace in Refineria di Kòrsou (RdK) (Curacao Oil Refinery). In a letter to Prime Minister Ivar Asjes (PS) she wants to focus on issues such as the overdue maintenance of machinery, the state of affairs regarding the financial statements for 2011 and 2012 and the appointment of Henny Barbolina as acting plant manager at CRU subsidiary.

She also wants to know from the Prime Minister whether there is an investigation into employees who are intimidated because they would have shared information about the company to outsiders.

Leeflang relies, among other things, on the report 'Findings on CRU "in which a number of problems are identified.

This report states that Barbolina, as a member of the management team, does not have the necessary expertise to achieve the RdK’s objectives.

According Leeflang, Barbolina was accused of negligence in 2013, but he was appointed on January 31 as deputy plant manager. She wants to know from Asjes how this could have happened.

Leeflang also suggests that the chairman of RdK’s Supervisory Board, Marinelle Maduro, is so uncertain about everything that before each meeting a legal assistance is paid to assist her, this at a rate of between 400 and 500 guilders per hour.

However Leeflang states in her letter to Asjes that despite the fact that CRU is the owner of the BOO power plant, all the shares are held by RdK and CRU is basically an empty company. That could be the reason why the annual reports of 2011 and 2012 were not prepared and cannot be approved.

The appointment of José van der Wal-Arnemann as the new director of CRU is for her another evidence of favoritism by the political party Pueblo Soberano (PS) and that the best candidate for the post of Director was ultimately not appointed.
