Leeflang: why not report on medical fraud?

Omayra LeeflangWILLEMSTAD – Member of Parliament for PAR, Omayra Leeflang, has sent a letter to the Minister of Health, Ben Whiteman, on fraud by a medical specialist, which was detected by inspector Jan Huurman. "Why was this not reported to the Medical Disciplinary Tribunal and the Public Prosecutor?", asks Leeflang.

The inspector informed through a press release that a specialist has charged a patient for a treatment that does not belong to his area of specialty. “According to the health inspector the patient had to pay cash and then the doctor submitted a claim to the Social Insurance Bank for payment,” according to the MP.

The inspector has asked the Association of Medical Specialist to clarify the situation but that is not enough according to Leeflang. “The y should report this to the Medical Disciplinary Tribunal and also to the Public Prosecutor. What is more worrying is that according to the inspector this is not the only case of fraud,” Leeflang stated.
