MDPT informs partners Heads of Agreement
WILLEMSTAD – The Multidisciplinary Project (MDPT) met recently with the social partners - which together make up the National Dialogue Platform Kòrsou ta Avansá " and informed them about the Heads of Agreement (HoA) signed by the Curaçao government and Refineria di Kòrsou (Oil Refinery) with the Chinese state oil company Guangdong Zhenrong Energy (GZE).
The purpose of the agreement with GZE is to invest in the modernization and upgrading of the Isla refinery, Curacao Refinery Utilities (CRU) enabling them to meet the highest international environmental standards. GZE will rent and operate for a period of forty years the refinery and CRU while ownership remains in the hand of Refineria di Kòrsou (RdK). Within a year a final agreement should be on the table where all the details are recorded.
In November 2013 the government of Curaçao has contracted the MDPT to seek a strategic partner for the refinery, which can dramatically reduce the negative impact on the environment and also can ensure that the refinery continues to make an economic contribution to the island. In 2014 and 2015 the MDPT, in this context, presented a progress report of its work to the tripartite platform which consists of the government, commerce and the unions in Curaçao.
