MFK denounces 1 million loan to oil company
WILLEMSTAD – The largest opposition party in parliament, MFK has called the loan application of Kompania di Petrolio i Gas (Curacao Oil and Gas Company COGC) to the public company Oil Refinery (RdK) for up to 1 million guilders a waste of money. The COGC was established with the aim to lead the process of investigating the presence of gas or oil in the Curaçao waters.
Chairman of the Supervisory Board of both RdK as COGC, Werner Wiels confirmed the additional loan request. MFK says there is no legal provision for the exploration of oil and gas while the present government wants to give the COGC 1 million guilders.
According to the MFK faction leader, Gerrit Schotte, the government established the COGC with the aim to agree on the exploration for oil and gas without the need for a legal basis.
Wiels indicated that the director of the COGC is not receiving a salary. Schotte wonders why the director must be paid if the laws governing oil and gas exploration have not been sent to parliament yet.
The MFK also says that they will hold accountable anyone who is responsible for supporting the loan of 1 million. The MFK will also hold the members of the Supervisory Board, the members of the Council of Ministers and the MPs, who support this loan, responsible.
