MFK: “Navarro cannot fight crime”

Nelson NavarroWILLEMSTAD – “Minister Nelson Navarro of Justice cannot fight crime.” This is according to the opposition party MFK. According to the party, Navarro said nothing in his speech during yesterday's news. "We've been in this situation for almost two years now where Minister Navarro tells us that because of lack of funding, he cannot fight crime effectively,” the party leaders said.

The party points out that (air) ports ought to have the highest priority. A country is always vulnerable to the border crime and terrorism. Safety in this type of risk is a government job, the party believes. “How is it possible that Navarro says that the airport is a private area where the airport operator must ensure safety of visitors?”

“Navarro proves that he does not know how to address crime in Curaçao. In this current government, there were other people who better functioned as Minister. This Minister’s approach is actually helping criminals.”

In his speech, Navarro stated that from now they will introduce drastic measures in the fight against crime. These measures would have major implications for the privacy of the population. "We must take action more than ever against crime,” he said. However, the minister did not know what kind of measures they should take.
