Minister Balborda wants to put a stop to illegal constructions on Klein Curaçao

klein CuracaoWILLEMSTAD - Minister Earl Balborda (Urban Planning) went to Klein Curacao (Small Island east of Curacao) a few days ago to take a look at the illegal constructions on that little island. This action was taken in response to reports in several media. The Minister announced that all illegal constructions on Klein Curacao will be stopped immediately. He made this announcement during the weekly press conference of the Council of Ministers in Fort Amsterdam.

"What we have found is actually a kind of observation platform up to 13 meters high with an area of 30m2,” Balborda said. "In addition, there are still a number of smaller constructions there. For the lookout and other small constructions there were no permissions requested nor granted," the Minister indicated.

Klein Curacao resorts under the Insular Development plan and is intended as an open land. "This means that the land is reserved for future use,” Balborda explained. "The ongoing construction works will be stopped now. The owners have the opportunity to apply for a building permit. If they request a building permit then their application will be considered whether the construction is or is not allowed. If it does not fit within the rules then we will request to the owner to remove the construction. If that does not happen, then the government will remove it at the owner's expense. If everything is according to the rules, then it may remain," said Minister Balborda .
