Minister in conversation with notaries

Quincy-GirigorieWILLEMSTAD - Minister of Justice Quincy Girigorie, in connection with all the commotion surrounding the appointment of three new civil-law notaries, is in discussion with a group of notaries who object to one of these appointments.

Candidate civil-law notary Martijn Moerdijk would not meet the requirements to be appointed to replace notary Eshuis. A number of candidate civil-law notaries objected to the procedure that followed in mid-July in a letter to the minister.

Moerdijk has not been in the service of Eshuis for three years, for example, and would not have any knowledge of the Curaçao community, which is required by law.

Girigorie says, in response to questions from the media, during a press conference, that he thinks to amend the law to prevent any ambiguity in the future. According to the Minister, people do not know exactly what the law says on this topic.
