Minister Martina is optimistic about alternatives to AirBerlin”

MartinaWILLEMSTAD - The Minister of Economic Development is confident that Lufthansa and Eurowings, two German airlines, with which the government has been conducting orientation talks, are the alternatives to losing the AirlBerlin flights this month.

According to the Minister, orientation talks were conducted three weeks ago and he has positive expectations about them. The parties showed their willingness during the talks. The occupancy rate of flights from Germany to Curaçao is good. In that regard, the business case looks good.

Martina stated that it is still too early to estimate when a deal can be concluded between the parties.

“It's still too early for that. Remember that we found out this week that AirBerlin will not be flying to Curaçao anymore. They were supposed to continue operating the route until the end of the first quarter of 2018. That was the first intention. It is not a matter of talking to the other two airlines as soon as possible so they can continue with the AirBerlin route,” said the Minister.

“I expect that there will be a delegation to Germany again in the short term.”
