Minister Navarro in Parliament: “Plans for bachelor’s degree for police force since 2006”
WILLEMSTAD – The project for education at a bachelor’s level for the police force has been in the making since 2006. Since that time a committee has presented an evaluation report to the police force. This is according to Minister Nelson Navarro during his intervention in parliament.
The Minister of Justice stated that everyone can remember the 800 pages report in which the committee made several recommendations. During that time several experts came together and investigation the judicial sector for months. One of the aspects that received more attention was the level of education of the police officers. Also, the education offered by the police school.
“This means that since that time we have been thinking about the direction in which the police training must go and what we need to do to better train these officers,” said the Minister in his intervention.
“Ten years ago the experts in this field made the recommendation to give training at an academic level. This training should be adapted to what the Netherlands, U.S.A., and the region are offering to its police officers,” said the Minister.
This is the reason why the Minister does not understand why there are so many in the community who are criticising the allocated funds for this project. The Minister intends to invest almost 6 million guilders in this project.
