Minister of Education: “We assume that schools will start tomorrow”

Alcala-WalleWILLEMSTAD - Tomorrow is the first day of school. The Minister of Education, Culture, Sports and Science, Marilyn Alcala-Wallé says that she assumes the schools will start tomorrow.

It is impossible to discuss all the 48 points that the teachers’ union Sitek wants to have clarity on before the start of the new school year. The teachers already indicated in a protest meeting with the Prime Minister and the Minister of Education that they will not be in their classrooms on Thursday if their demands are not met.

Alcala-Wallé says that the government wants to set open and honest target dates for the discussions. The Minister wants results before those target dates and no more delays. “If there is a strike, so be it. But most teachers are aware that it takes time to deal with all these problems,” said the Minister.
