Minister of Justice: “Many criminals among Venezuelan immigrants”
WILLEMSTAD – “Now we have a situation where unexpectedly we are being confronted with a number of illegals here on the island. And unfortunately, many of those we arrest are Venezuelan criminals.” This is according to the outgoing Minister of Justice Nelson Navarro during the Central Committee meeting of Parliament.
The Minister reacted on the questions about the facilities for illegals at the Curaçao prison. According to the Members of Parliament, these facilities are in bad shape and these are not appropriate to hold a large number of illegals that are arrested. The outgoing Minister hopes that his successor will make this a priority. “Of course we have to set priorities. Our government had other priorities. That is why I hope the new Minister will take care of this problem.”
According to Navarro, the government must reach an agreement with the aviation company InselAir to be able to deport illegals within two to three days. “With this, we will send a strong signal out there. You entered Curaçao illegally, we will find you and deport you. And those who committed an illegal act will be punished.”
The Minister said that this is the direction the country should take and he has worked hard to accomplish this. He hopes the new Minister will continue with this policy.
