Minister Palm confronting accusations of micromanaging

PalmWILLEMSTAD – The conflict between the Minister of Economic Development, Stanley Palm and the top management of his Ministry has been the topic of recent discussions in various sectors of the community. There are opinions in favor of, on one side, the minister and, on the other side, the suspended director of international affairs of the Ministry of Economic Development, Vanessa Tore.

Those in favor of the director accuse the minister of micromanaging, which practically has the economy of the island on brakes.

The leader of the minister’s political party, Alex Rosaria (PAIS) refuted these accusations on various occasions. He argues that his political party is against micromanaging in the economic sector.

The public accountants’ bureau (SOAB) has now started an internal audit at the Ministry of Economic Development, This investigation was requested by Minister Palm. It was also confirmed that the suspended director will not be allowed to enter the premises of the Ministry for three months. Tore will still receive her salary during this period. SOAB indicated that they will need three months to do their investigation.

Sources indicate that Tore will be investigated decisions or omissions that have cost the government thousands of guilders. SOAB will investigate a payment of 150 thousand guilders that went to the Minister Plenipotentiary in Brussels, Dr. Caryl Monte, who has helped Curaçao on a voluntary basis. According to these sources, Tore has decided that Monte still needs to be paid, while the Minister Plenipotentiary did not even request payment.
