WILLEMSTAD – According to the Minister of Economic Development, Stanley Palm, his Ministry is currently working on a solution for the aviation issues on the island. This is related to the problems in Venezuela.

The local airline, Insel Air is having serious financial problems while they have about 80 million dollars stuck in the South American country. Venezuela has promised to pay, but has not set a specific date for the payment.

Minister Palm believes that there must be incentives to maintain the Venezuelan routes, but the airlines, operating from Curacao must be able to stay alive. “Even though it’s a different situation, but Air Berlin is receiving incentives to keep the route Germany – Curacao alive. The Venezuelan route does not really need incentives because it is always fully booked, but we have to come up with something to that effect to keep our airlines flying,” the Minister said.
