Ministry of Social Affairs facilitates women trafficking
WILLEMSTAD - The Ministry of Social Affairs facilitates trafficking and abuse of women in the sex industry in Curaçao. That is one of the conclusions of the Court of Audit in their report on work permits.
In their report, the Court of Audit shows that the ministry is making a mess with the issuing of working permit. The ministry is not following the law concerning these permits, said the Court of Audit.
“Further, the accelerated procedure is wrongly applied in the treatment of applications from companies not mentioned in the decision of November 19, 2003. In October 2014, the Court of First Instance in two criminal cases ruled women trafficking and prostitution. These are women who were forced to prostitute while their working permit stated that they were employed as dancers,” said the Court of Audit in their report.
Too often the ministry resorts to the accelerated procedure to give foreigners a work permit. This procedure is illegal. Each year, the Ministry issues 4000 work permits to foreign workers.
