MP: “Media in Curaçao in the hands of politics and commerce”
WILLEMSTAD – The media in Curaçao is being bribed to brainwash the people. This is according to the Independent Member of Parliament Glenn Sulvaran in the debate on convicted MPs.
“Consciously decide who you are going to vote for in the upcoming elections is therefore impossible,” said the Independent MP in his intervention referring to all the lies and deceit being fed to the community through certain media outlets on the island.
The accusation of the parliamentarian comes on the eve of the publication of a UNESCO research on the state of the media in Curaçao. This report will be presented tonight at the National Library on the Waaigat.
In that report, it is clear that there is no question of independent press. Which is for a large part in the hands of politics and commerce.
The Independent MP also challenged the local TV station TeleCuraçao to talk about Gerrit Schotte being a convict in Parliament. “They have never mentioned it before. They have never argued that he shouldn’t be in Parliament. All they do is give him air time to defend himself and lie about the case. This is clearly brainwashing,” said Sulvaran.
