MP’s cannot reserve meeting rooms for press conferences anymore

Parliament officesWILLEMSTAD - Independent Member of Parliament, Omayra Leeflang got a message earlier this week that she may rent a meeting room in the Parliament building for a press conference. The reason she was told was that the press conference had much to do with party politics. "They have not even asked me about the subject, the fact that I had reserved the room was party politics," according to Leeflang.

Leeflang cannot imagine that they can refuse an MP to use the Parliament building. "This is new to me. It was not announced in advance." However, she finds it striking that all MP’s are invited to be in the Parliament building on Friday October 4, for the celebration of the anniversary of the President of Parliament, Mike Franco. "So it is allowed for the birthday celebration of the President? What does that have to do with representing the people, that's a private matter? He’s the one who should rent a separate room for his party,” according to Leeflang.

Yet Leeflang has seen a small ray of hope: "I rented a room for my press conference at the music school and that I will continue to do. They can really use the money well. "
