MPs: “No room in Parliament for convict”
WILLEMSTAD - The leader of the ruling party Pueblo Soberano (PS), Jaime Cordoba indicated recently that there is no room in parliament for a convict. Cordoba said that he cannot imagine the convicted Gerrit Schotte attend the parliamentary meeting this Monday as if nothing has happened.
"It's a great shame. This is a malfeasance. If I were him I would stay away. I dare not show my face," said the leader of PS.
The President of Parliament, Marcolino Franco stated that the membership of the MP may be withdrawn only if there is a final judgment. "Right now that is not the case, because Schotte's legal representative indicated that they will use their right to appeal. Only Schotte himself can submit his resignation," said Franco.
Leader of the coalition party PAR, Zita Jesus-Leito thinks the law has prevailed.
"Everyone now knows that we have a politician who is willing to sell Curacao for matters that cannot bear the light of day," was her response.
