Navarro: “Integrity is major problem at coast guard”
WILLEMSTAD – The Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro, indicated in an interview that the wants to eliminate the so-called bad apples in the coast guard before he can talk about taking home their weapons.
According to the Minister there is indeed a decision on this matter, but the implementation has been delayed by the investigation dubbed Baywatch. This is an investigation into illegal practices by coast guard officers. The investigation has actually been completed and a group of officers were arrested at the end of last year. The Minister even indicated that there might be more arrests.
The position of the Minister has been, since September last year, that if there are integrity problems with the officers, they will not be able to carry their weapons after working hours. The Minister indicated that he will have a meeting with the Director of the coast guard this week to discuss this matter.
