Navarro: “Notary is almost ready with requirements to sell Campo Alegre (brothel)”

NavarroWILLEMSTAD – The Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro confirmed recently that the process to sell the brothel in Curaçao, famously named Campo Alegre is progressing well. According to the Minister’s declaration the notary is finishing the requirements for a public tender that will have to take place soon.

The fight for the brothel has been taking place in and out of court for years where the owners, shareholders and the government have been battling to acquire  the rights to sell or operate. The Public Prosecution (OM) has also been working hard on the conditions for the sale of the brothel. Since February of this year, the Minister of Justice has been in contact with the OM to monitor the progress. He can now confirm that the OM is working on auctioning Campo Alegre. But the Minister already announced this in 2015. Meanwhile the brothel has been operating as usual under the management of the company Rectour, which has the rights to operate it.

The Minister indicated that all investors can participate in the auctioning of the brother, even international ones. They will have to wait till the place has been appraised. Another important aspect is how the place will be operated. The Minister said that they will have to come up with a policy to operate the brother. He believes that everything should be legalized. “Laws will have to be made on how we are going to deal with this whole prostitution issue. We will have to emit permits for other brothels too, but of course we will have to study this first,” said the Minister.
