Navarro promised improvement for prisoners

Prison CuracaoWILLEMSTAD – According to the local Dutch newspaper Antilliaans Dagblad, Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro called the lawyer who represents the prisoners at the Sentro di Detenshon i Korekshon Korsou (Center for Detention and Correction Curacao) (SDKK), Mr. Everett Wilsoe to talk about the situation at the detention center.

Navarro assured Wilsoe that he will take care of the situation. The Minister will ask the management team of the detention center to assess the complaints.

The lawyer suggested a period of 30 days to comply with the improvement of the living conditions, including by installing good and technically usable toilets and make arrangements for the continues supply of running water. They also want a dietician appointed, offering fresh, good, sufficient and varied food. Thirdly, something must be done about the lack of dentists and a decent dentist chair.

The detainees have also requested more improvements with sport possibilities and to be able to participate in meaningful day programs with labor and education.
