Navarro wants to tackle obesity police officers
WILLEMSTAD – The Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro wants to tackle the problem with obesity within the police force. The minister wants to do this by offering a gym program to the officers completely paid by the government. In this way he hopes to reduce the number of overweight cops in Curaçao.
The Ministry of Justice will soon offer this facility to the corps.
Last year the minister said in a press conference that the police officers are too overweight. “Obesity has also penetrated the police force, indicating a reflection of the society.” Navarro said.
During the press conference the minister said that he will give the overweight cops three months’ time to get back near their ideal weight. “If that fails, we will come with another solution.” The minister did not want to reveal back then what the other solution could be.
Navarro also said that he believes that police officers should be neatly dressed. “They need to be an example to the community. They also represent the government when they are in active duty. This means that they have to be neatly dressed and well groomed.”
