Navarro willing to step down

WILLEMSTAD – During a parliamentary debate, the Minister of Justice, Nelson Navarro announced that he’s willing to step down as Minister after the Helmin Wiels case is solved. According to the MinisterNavarro in Parliament, he does not have any political aspirations but would like to see the criminal investigation into the murder of the late political leader and MP being solved.

The MPs debated, during the public meeting, about the death of one of the main suspects in the murder case. Luigi Florentina alias Pretu hanged himself in his cell at the Barber police station. Barber is located on the western side of the island.

The Minister was highly criticized by the opposition for his handling of the Florentina case, but also for his decision to send the Chief of Police, Marlon Wernet on mandatory leave. According to the opposition, he should not have sent Mr. Wernet home, but should have resigned as a Minister. Navarro defended himself by saying that it is the Chief of Police’s responsibility to keep the suspects safe, not his.
