New banker for the government
WILLEMSTAD - The government of Curaçao has chosen for the Maduro & Curiel’s Bank (MCB) as their new banker. This is according to the Minister of Finance, Dr. Jose Jardim.
The top management of the bank was not aware of this decision as of last week, but like other banks, they had participated in a public tender procedure, and were pending a decision.
The banks that participated in the tender were anticipating a decision much earlier this year.
Being the banker of the government mainly involves conducting transactions with the relations of the government, such as civil servants and suppliers.
So far the Giro Bank was the bank of the Curacao government. In 2011 Giro was therefore selected and appointed by the then government headed by former Prime Minister Gerrit Schotte).
The appointment was basically for three years. However, there was a delay in the new tender.
