New Governor installed
WILLEMSTAD - The first female Governor of the island was officially installed this morning. Lucille George Wout took up residence at the Palace of the Governor at Fort Amsterdam in Willemstad.
Acting governor Adele Van der Pluijm-Vrede wished the new governor "great wisdom" and says to have confidence in Her Excellency. "This is a very nice moment and a 'victory' for Curaçao," says the proud daughter of George-Wout. "I think she is someone who is honest and prepared for the job. I want to say congratulations to the island. As a mother I think she is cut out for this job and that she is prepared to assume this responsibility.”
Lucille George-Wout was previously Commissioner of Finance of the Island Territory of Curaçao, Minister of Labor of the Netherlands Antilles, member and later chairman of the Parliament of the Netherlands Antilles.
