No 4000 civil servants in central government building

Minister van der HorstWILLEMSTAD - In the new building there will be 1500 officials accommodated. This was confirmed by Minister Etienne van der Horst (Administration, Planning and Services).

He was responding to publications in the local media that make mention of the fact that the government has plans to build a central building, where nearly 4,000 officials would be accommodated. Minister Van der Horst says that he has no idea where that information came from.

"It was never meant to accommodate so many officials in the central government building. Our plan is based on 1500 officials. Some officials simply cannot be accommodated in a new building, for example the customs. They must be in their outposts. You cannot move them to a central government building."

Van der Horst emphasized that support services of the government will be housed in the new building, according to the original plan. It will consist of a number of buildings connected to each other at one location.

The area where the central government building will come, will be about 30,000 square meters, while the building itself should be about 19,900 square meters. The construction costs are estimated at 119 million dollars.

The central government building will save millions. This involves increasing the efficiency, but also structural savings on utilities.
