No work permit for low-skilled foreigners
WILLEMSTAD - Gardeners, hairdressers, tilers, chambermaids and childcare workers from abroad will not get a work permit.
The government has stopped issuing these permits for 34 low-skilled occupations.
Companies must recruit these people on the local labor market. This is necessary according to the Ministry of Social Affairs because unemployment in Curaçao is high, especially among young people. Nearly 4 in 10 is unemployed at home. 4000 annual work permits are being sought.
