Non-teaching employees and oil refinery contract workers on strike
WILLEMSTAD – The non-teaching staff of schools and the contract workers of the oil refinery are on strike today. The contract workers have already announced their action since last week that they will position themselves at all the gates of the refinery. No one will be able to enter the refinery premises, which will halt all operations.
The union of the non-teaching staff, STSK continued with their meetings this morning. This is part of their action that was started last week Friday. Yesterday the union held a meeting in which the members decided to continue their actions today during work hours.
The most important points to discuss are the signed agreement with the Minister of Education, the importance of the employees in general and the non-teaching staff of schools in particular.
Last Friday the STSK tried to meet with the Minister of Education, Irene Dick but to no avail. The union wants the minister to publish the signed agreement and to send this to the school boards as prescribed by law. One of the agreements that the union wants the minister to publish is that the non-teaching staff works from 7 am to 3 pm.
The union also wants the minister to inform the school boards that the non-teaching staff will get the same vacation days as the teachers.
The union is stressing that the minister complies with these demands or they will continue with their actions.
