Oil Company: “Nothing abnormal with loan request”
WILLEMSTAD - According to the oil and gas exploration company, there is nothing abnormal with the loan request of one million guilders applied for by the company at the Refineria di Kòrsou NV (RdK), which is the public company that owns the installations of the oil refinery. Also, it is not true that an employee of the company is earning 15,000 guilders per month. This is according to the oil company in a press release. Last December the company applied for a loan for an amount of about 1 million guilders in seed funding to draw up a prospectivity report.
Such a report is essential for the oil company for selling information to companies interested in conducting seismic surveys in the Curaçao territorial waters. It was mainly the opposition party MFK, which denounced the 1 million guilders loan in a press release. According to MFK this loan is to pay salaries. The oil company emphatically stated that, contrary to what the media have reported, there is no question of applying for a loan to pay salaries.
As is known, both the interim director Lisette Bor as the Supervisory Board are conducting their work on a pro bono basis. The oil company stressed in their press release that the loan will be repaid. “It is not a donation as some others would have you believe,” the article states.
The company also believes that professionals should have the chance to work in a positive atmosphere for the development of the local economy. According to the interim director of the oil company, there will be no contract commitments for the exploration of oil and gas as long as the law has not been approved by the parliament of Curaçao.
