OM part screening candidate ministers finalized
WILLEMSTAD - The Public Prosecutor (OM) Curaçao completed the judicial reference regarding the security checks of the candidate ministers.
The outcome of the judicial reference has been presented to the ‘Formateur’ of the interim cabinet and the Vice-Chairman of the Advisory Board respectively. The Prosecution must - in accordance with the Ordinance Integrity (candidate) Ministers – base its information on the available records, including the penalty card register and the criminal justice system of the documentation service.
The OM will also consider whether the applicant is or is not a suspect or has been in an ongoing or closed criminal investigation involving one misdemeanor, unless the interests of that investigation are opposed.
The Ordinance requires the prosecution’s careful consideration with precise information available and criminal investigation interests are weighed. This takes some time and mistakes must be avoided.
There was no delay in the investigation; the prosecution notes in this context that the current screening test was even completed in a shorter time than the judicial reference as it was carried out in November / December 2016.
On the content of the screening, the Prosecution obviously does not make any announcements. It is confidential.
