Only Schotte before court
WILLEMSTAD - Only Gerrit Schotte will appear before the judge in the pre-trial of the case Babel tomorrow. The case of his partner Cicely van der Dijs was postponed.
This was confirmed by the spokesman Norman Serphos of the Public Prosecutor (OM). Van der Dijs’ lawyer objected to her summons. An objection must be treated according to the rules before it can be continued. That means, according to Serphos, that the ruling on the objection must be awaited.
According to Serphos, it is expected that the announcement will come around the end of March if the summons holds. In any case, nothing substantive changes to the matter.
“It is for the court to determine if the treatment continues after that,” said the OM spokesman.
Former Prime Minister Schotte is suspected of money laundering, forgery, bribery and violation of the telecom legislation (possession of so-called jammers, which are forbidden by law) in the case Babel.
Van der Dijs is also accused of money laundering, forgery and breach of the telecom legislation. During the pre-trial a planning is made for the substantive proceedings.
