Opposition wants new investigation into Central Bank

Central BankWILLEMSTAD - The Court of Auditors gave a report to the members of Parliament on the report Supervision Central Bank Curacao and Sint Maarten. The meeting was at the request of the opposition parties in Parliament. The Court of Auditors investigated in 2012 the allegations against the Director of the Central Bank, Dr. Emsley Tromp. According to the report, Mr. Tromp acted as an agent in the provision of bonds to the utility company Aqualectra. The Auditors did not receive any cooperation from the Central Bank during their investigation. Many questions remained unanswered.

The same applies to the then Minister of Finance. Earlier, the MP for the opposition party MAN, Charles Cooper indicated that this investigation only raises more questions. MAN leader Hensley Koeiman expects that Parliament will adopt a motion to force the Court of Auditors to initiate another investigation into the Central Bank on short term. The Auditors have two weeks to prepare to answer all the parliamentary questions.
