PAIS wants clarity on future refinery

AlexRosariaWILLEMSTAD – Leader of the political party and coalition member PAIS, Alex Rosaria wants for the Prime Minister, Ivar Asjes, to play open cards with the parliament about what is going on in the negotiations over the future of the oil refinery Isla. For this reason, Rosaria has invited the Prime Minister to give a full explanation in a parliamentary central committee meeting.

The coalition party wants to give Asjes the opportunity to explain to parliament, thus to the people, if there are actually two committees working on two separate possibilities for the future of the refinery. One of the committees is working on extending the contract with the Venezuelan state oil company PDVSA. Another committee is supposedly working on a future without the refinery.

According to Rosaria, Asjes has always said that the government’s standpoint is that the refining activities will continue after 2019, which is the year when the current lease contract will expire. The government and PDVSA are even looking for a third partner in this endeavor.
