PAIS wants new standards
WILLEMSTAD – Coalition party PAIS wants the government to introduce technical standards for manufactured products and goods that are being imported to the island. This is according to the party in a written statement to the government.
The internationally accepted standards are needed to organize the country to make it illegal to bring products on the market that are harmful to humans, plants, animals and the environment.
As an example, the party uses vehicles and mechanical devices that emit certain gases, which exceeds internationally established standards, or devices with a different voltage than what is used on the island.
Also, vehicles in a given technical condition and products with labels against morality should be prohibited. The party indicates that there is no ban on products that have labels with maltreatment of slaves depicted on them.
The answer to the question what kind of country we want to live in, according to PAIS is that Curaçao should not allow random products to be admitted on the market. The party recalls that the government already agreed in the year 2000 to allow the proposed rules.
